Fatal Crashes in Howell County

Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of crashes. They often occur when a driver travels the wrong way, crosses the center line, or enters a roadway by mistake. On highways like US 63, where vehicles move at high speeds, a head-on crash can result in severe or fatal injuries. The force of impact doubles when both vehicles travel toward each other, which increases the risk of catastrophic damage.

Howell County and the surrounding areas have seen their share of fatal highway accidents. According to Missouri traffic safety data, rural crashes account for a significant percentage of statewide fatalities each year. In fact, rural roads often have higher fatality rates compared to urban roads due to higher speeds, limited lighting, and longer emergency response times. Head-on collisions, while less common than rear-end or angle crashes, are among the most deadly. These types of crashes can cause traumatic brain injuries, internal bleeding, and life-threatening fractures.

When a fatal crash occurs, families are left coping with shock, grief, and financial stress. In Missouri, surviving family members may pursue compensation in a wrongful death claim. This may include funeral expenses, lost income, and loss of companionship. These claims can help ease the financial burden while families focus on healing.

Insurance companies often dispute responsibility or attempt to minimize payouts. With head-on crashes involving serious injuries or death, gathering evidence such as crash reports, witness statements, and roadway analysis becomes important. A wrongful death attorney can guide families through the legal process and ensure their rights are protected.
