What Should You Know About Right-of-Way and Liability in Missouri Crashes?

In Missouri, right-of-way plays a critical role in determining liability after a crash, especially at intersections controlled by stop signs. When a driver fails to yield, insurance companies and investigators will often focus on whether traffic laws were followed and how that decision contributed to the collision.

Crashes involving larger vehicles, such as commercial trucks, can result in more severe outcomes due to the size and force of impact. Even when one driver is not injured, the damage to smaller vehicles can be significant, which is why determining fault is an important part of the process.

Insurance companies typically review police reports, scene evidence, and any witness statements to understand what happened. In cases involving failure to yield, that factor can strongly influence how claims are handled and which policy is responsible for covering damages.

When a fatality is involved, the process may take longer as investigations are completed and reports are finalized. Families and others affected may also be contacted by insurance representatives during this time, making it important to keep records of all communication and related documents.

If you or your family has been affected by a serious crash, having the right support can help you navigate the next steps. A lawyer can assist with understanding liability, handling insurance matters, and providing guidance during a difficult time.
