The resulting head-on impact caused critical injuries to the driver of the Nissan. The 24-year-old woman was then transported to St. Louis University Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of the crash.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life. We also wish those hurt a rapid recovery.

Losing a Loved One in a Car Crash in Missouri: What to Do Next

If your loved one was killed in an accident in Missouri, your priority should be securing the official Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report and documenting all correspondence with insurance adjusters. These records are foundational to protecting your family's legal rights and are essential if you intend to seek justice, cover funeral expenses, or hold an at-fault driver accountable for negligence.

Missouri law allows surviving spouses, children, or parents to pursue a Wrongful Death action to recover pecuniary losses, such as the loss of the deceased’s future financial support and services.

Additionally, Missouri’s "aggravating circumstances" standard allows for increased damages if the at-fault driver’s actions were exceptionally reckless, such as crossing into oncoming traffic.

Because Missouri follows a Pure Comparative Fault rule, you can still recover damages even if the deceased was found to be partially at fault; your total recovery is simply reduced by their percentage of responsibility.

While the Missouri Statute of Limitations generally grants you three years from the date of death to file a lawsuit, acting quickly is vital to preserve disappearing evidence like vehicle data recorder (black box) information, tire marks, and witness statements.

Navigating the complexities of the next steps following a fatal crash can be overwhelming. Consulting with a legal professional early can ensure the procedural requirements are met and that your claim accurately reflects the findings of the crash investigation.
