Caldwell Co., MO – Truck Collision at NE Nettleton Rd Sends One to Hospital
Caldwell County, MO (February 23, 2026) – A collision involving a pickup truck and a tractor-trailer resulted in a hospital transport on Saturday night, February 21, on U.S. Highway 36. The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) responded to the scene at the intersection of NE Nettleton Road, roughly four miles east of Hamilton, at approximately 11:25 p.m.
According to the official crash report, a 49-year-old man from St. Joseph was driving a 2015 Chevy Silverado westbound when he stopped in the crossover and attempted to cross the eastbound lanes. In doing so, he collided with an oncoming 2016 Freightliner semi-truck.
The front of the truck struck the passenger-side front fender of the Silverado. Its driver was transported to Cameron Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries. The truck driver was not reported as injured.
We extend our best wishes to the injured person as they recover.
Insurance Options After a Pickup and Truck Accident in Missouri
Accidents involving a personal pickup and a commercial semi-truck are unique because they involve two very different types of insurance. To safeguard your legal interests, you need to understand how your personal policy works alongside the high-limit commercial coverage typically held by trucking companies.
Most pickup truck owners carry a standard personal auto policy. If you are injured, this policy may offer Medical Payments (MedPay) coverage. MedPay is a "no-fault" benefit, meaning it can help pay for your initial hospital bills regardless of who caused the crash at the crossover.
This is often the fastest way to get medical costs covered while the larger investigation continues.
If the other vehicle involved doesn't have enough insurance to pay for all your damages, your own Underinsured Motorist (UIM) coverage can step in. This is an "add-on" to your own policy that acts as a safety net. It ensures that even if the commercial policy or the other driver's limits are reached, you still have a way to pay for your ongoing recovery.
In an accident like this, you will likely be contacted by two different types of adjusters: your own and the one from the other involved vehicle. It is important to be careful with the commercial adjuster, as their job is to protect the other party’s interests.
Having a professional review your insurance options can ensure you don't accidentally give up your rights to a full recovery from either policy.
It can be confusing to navigate the overlap between personal and commercial insurance, but you don't have to do it alone. At Dunk Law Firm we can help you understand which policies apply to your situation.
