Kansas City, MO – Two Women Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on 71 Hwy Identified
Kansas City, MO (March 8, 2026) – This article follows up on a story covered earlier. The original report can be found here.
Authorities have identified the two women who lost their lives in a multi-vehicle crash earlier this week on U.S. Highway 71 in Kansas City.
The collision was reported just before 12:40 p.m. on Monday, March 2, near the exit ramp from northbound 71 Highway to Meyer Boulevard. According to investigators, a silver Subaru Forester and a silver Ford Escape were stopped at a red light on the ramp when a black Ford F-150 approached at a high rate of speed.
Police say the F-150 sideswiped the Ford Escape before striking the rear of the Subaru. The impact forced the Subaru northbound across the eastbound lanes of Meyer Boulevard, through the center median, and over a concrete wall. As the vehicle was pushed over the barrier, it overturned and landed in the westbound lanes of Meyer.
After separating from the Subaru, the F-150 rotated across the westbound lanes and collided with a gray GMC Sierra traveling along Meyer Boulevard before coming to a stop.
The driver and front-seat passenger of the Subaru were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later identified them as 46-year-old Opia Muntagim and 54-year-old Teri Glass.
The driver of the Ford F-150 was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the Ford Escape was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Kansas City police said the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the loved ones of Opia Muntagim and Teri Glass.
What Happens After a Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash in Missouri?
After a fatal multi-vehicle crash, investigators typically conduct a detailed review of the events leading up to the collision. Police may analyze the crash scene, examine vehicle damage, review surveillance or traffic camera footage, and interview witnesses to determine exactly how the crash unfolded.
When a fatality occurs, the medical examiner works to confirm the cause of death and officially identify the victims. Authorities often notify family members before releasing the names publicly. Investigators may also review factors such as driver behavior, speed, impairment, or mechanical issues that could have contributed to the crash.
In Missouri, liability for a crash is typically based on fault. If negligence, such as reckless driving or excessive speed, played a role in the accident, the responsible party may be held legally and financially accountable for damages.
In fatal crashes, surviving family members may have the option to pursue a wrongful death claim to help recover losses related to funeral expenses, lost financial support, and other damages.
Because multi-vehicle crashes can involve several drivers and insurance companies, determining responsibility can take time. Families affected by fatal accidents may find it helpful to speak with a lawyer to better understand their rights, the claims process, and what legal options may be available during such a difficult period.
