Memphis, TN - Child Killed in Vehicle Incident at Summer Hills Cir

Memphis, TN (November 15, 2025) — A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Saturday, November 15, in northeast Memphis, where a child died after being struck by a vehicle inside an apartment complex off Raleigh Lagrange Road, authorities said.

The Memphis Police Department responded at approximately 9:00 a.m. to Summer Hills Circle for a report of a pedestrian crash involving a child. When officers arrived, they learned that the injured child had already been transported by private means to a nearby fire station for urgent help. From there, first responders rushed the child to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, where the child was tragically pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police have not released the child’s age or identity, but said no charges have been filed at this time, as the investigation remains ongoing.

Our deepest sympathies go out to the child’s family as they face this tragic loss.

Pedestrian Accidents Involving Children in Tennessee

Incidents involving children and vehicles are among the most devastating types of pedestrian crashes. Children are smaller, harder to see, and often unpredictable in their movements, especially in areas like apartment complexes where cars, pedestrians, and blind corners intersect. According to the Tennessee Department of Safety, children are at significantly higher risk for severe or fatal injuries in low-speed collisions compared to adults.

Parking lots and residential complexes are especially dangerous, accounting for hundreds of pedestrian injuries nationwide each year. Factors such as crowded parking areas, poorly marked crosswalks, obstructed views, and distracted driving all contribute to these tragic events. Even when a vehicle is traveling slowly, the impact can cause catastrophic injuries to a child. Additionally, children may lack the awareness or physical ability to react quickly to oncoming traffic, making split-second accidents far more likely.

When a child is killed in a pedestrian crash, families may have legal options even when criminal charges are not issued. Tennessee law allows parents or guardians to pursue a wrongful death claim to help cover funeral expenses, medical bills, counseling, and emotional damages. These cases can involve complex questions about driver behavior, property safety, and vehicle movement patterns. Legal investigations often include reviewing video footage, interviewing witnesses, evaluating driver logs, and assessing environmental hazards. Families can also pursue claims against property owners or municipalities if unsafe conditions contributed to the tragedy.

A skilled wrongful death attorney can help families by reviewing police findings, obtaining surveillance footage, interviewing witnesses, and consulting accident reconstruction experts. Legal guidance provides clarity during a highly emotional and uncertain process, allowing families to fully understand their rights and pursue justice while addressing financial and emotional challenges.
