Memphis, TN – Four Hospitalized in High-Speed Crash at E Mitchell Rd & S Third St
Memphis, TN (February 26, 2026) – Four people suffered serious injuries Wednesday night, February 25, after a high-speed crash in Southwest Memphis, according to the Memphis police.
The accident happened around 11 p.m. at the intersection of East Mitchell Road and South Third Street. Investigators said the driver of a Lexus traveled at speeds up to 100 mph, ran a red light, and struck a Dodge Ram that was turning onto East Mitchell Road.
The impact caused two passengers in the Dodge to be ejected from the truck. A third passenger inside the Dodge lost consciousness during the collision.
A passenger in the Lexus suffered critical injuries and told police the driver left the scene after the crash. Officers have not located the Lexus driver and continue searching.
Emergency responders transported three people to Regional One Health in critical condition. A fourth person went to the hospital with non-critical injuries.
Police cited the Dodge driver for driving without a valid license and without proof of insurance. Detectives continue to investigate the crash and search for the Lexus driver.
We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them strength in their recovery.
How Insurance Claims Work After a Crash in Tennessee
Insurance claims after a crash in Tennessee usually begin with notifying your insurance company and opening a claim. Tennessee follows a fault-based system, which means the at-fault driver’s insurance typically pays for injuries and damages. Determining fault plays a key role in how compensation may be handled.
After a serious accident, insurance adjusters review police reports, medical records, witness statements, and vehicle damage. They may request recorded statements or additional documentation. Keeping medical bills, repair estimates, and proof of missed work helps support the claim. Clear records make it easier to connect injuries directly to the collision.
If the at-fault driver lacks insurance or leaves the scene, uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage may apply. This type of coverage can help pay medical expenses and other losses, depending on the policy limits. Tennessee also follows a modified comparative fault rule, which means compensation may be reduced if a person shares responsibility for the crash.
Insurance companies often evaluate injury severity, treatment length, and long-term impact before discussing settlement. A truck accident attorney can review policy details, explain how fault laws apply, and outline what types of compensation may be available. Legal guidance can also help manage communication with insurers and protect important deadlines.
