How Long Do I Have to File a Car Accident Claim in Tennessee?

In Tennessee, you generally have one year from the date of a car accident to file a personal injury claim. This time limit, known as the statute of limitations, applies to most injury-related cases and plays an important role in protecting your ability to seek compensation.

Acting within this timeframe is important because missing the deadline can prevent a claim from moving forward. After a crash, people often focus on medical care and recovery first, which makes it easy to lose track of legal timelines. Gathering documents early, such as medical records, accident reports, and insurance information, can help keep everything organized.

Injury crashes can lead to a range of outcomes, from minor soreness to more serious conditions that require ongoing care. Medical bills, follow-up visits, and time away from work can add up over time. Keeping detailed records of treatment and expenses can provide a clearer picture of how the accident has affected daily life.

A car accident lawyer can review the facts of the accident and explain how Tennessee’s filing deadlines may apply. This may include outlining steps to file a claim, identifying responsible parties, and explaining what types of compensation may be available based on the situation.
