DeKalb Co., MO – One Killed, Two Children Seriously Injured in Fiery Crash at US-36 & MO-33
(December 28, 2025) – A fatal crash on Friday, December 26, in DeKalb County claimed the life of a 34-year-old man and left two children seriously injured after a vehicle failed to stop at an intersection west of Osborn.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 8:54 p.m. at the junction of eastbound US-36 and southbound MO-33, about two miles west of Osborn. Investigators said a Chevrolet Tahoe traveling northbound on MO-33 failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection directly into the path of an eastbound 2025 Volvo Conventional semi-truck.
The semi struck the Chevrolet, causing both vehicles to run off the north side of US-36 into the median. The Volvo overturned onto its right side and came to rest facing north, with its towed unit blocking the eastbound passing lane. The Chevrolet came to rest upright in front of the semi, facing northwest, and caught fire.
The driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe, a 34-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers in the Tahoe, a 12-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries and were transported by DeKalb Clinton Ambulance to Mosaic Life Care of Saint Joseph for treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts are with the children injured in this crash and with the loved ones of the man who lost his life as the investigation continues.
Fatal Commercial Vehicle Crashes in DeKalb County
Rural highways and junctions throughout DeKalb County frequently see a mix of local traffic and commercial trucking activity. When large trucks pass through intersections controlled by stop signs, the margin for error is small. Missed stops, misjudged gaps, or limited sightlines can quickly lead to devastating collisions, especially at higher speeds.
Accidents involving semitrailers often have far more serious consequences than standard vehicle crashes. The force of impact alone can cause extensive damage, and incidents involving vehicle fires or rollovers significantly increase the likelihood of fatal or life-altering injuries. These crashes can also result in prolonged road closures and hazardous conditions for first responders.
For families impacted by collisions involving commercial vehicles, the aftermath can be overwhelming. Claims may involve multiple insurance carriers, trucking companies, and federal safety regulations, creating additional complexity during an already difficult time.
Under Missouri law, those injured and families who have lost loved ones may be entitled to seek compensation for medical costs, rehabilitation, funeral expenses, and loss of financial support when negligence is involved. Consulting with an attorney experienced in truck accident and wrongful death cases can help families understand their legal options and pursue accountability while focusing on healing.
A wrongful death lawyer can help surviving family members understand their rights, pursue compensation for funeral costs, lost income, and emotional suffering, and hold responsible parties accountable.
