Pedestrian Accidents in Jackson County, Missouri

Pedestrian fatalities remain a serious concern in Jackson County and throughout the state of Missouri. High-speed roads like Interstate 70 pose an especially high risk for pedestrians, particularly during nighttime hours. Factors such as limited lighting, heavy traffic flow, and the unexpected presence of a person on foot all increase the likelihood of a serious or fatal crash. In many cases, drivers may not have enough time to react, and pedestrians have little to no protection from the force of impact.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, over 100 pedestrians lose their lives each year on roadways across the state. Many of these fatal incidents occur on highways, where pedestrians may be walking along the shoulder, crossing the road unexpectedly, or trying to reach safety after a breakdown or vehicle emergency. While walking near traffic is always risky, highways and interstates are especially dangerous due to the high speed of vehicles and the lack of pedestrian infrastructure.

When a fatal pedestrian accident occurs, the victim’s family may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim. These claims can help recover compensation for funeral and burial expenses, outstanding medical bills, emotional pain, loss of income, and other damages related to the loss of a loved one. Even if no criminal charges are filed, civil legal action may still be possible.

A knowledgeable wrongful death attorney can provide crucial guidance during this overwhelming time. They can help investigate the crash, gather evidence, negotiate with insurance companies, and represent your family’s best interests throughout the legal process.
