Pedestrian Fatalities in Janesville, Wisconsin

Fatal pedestrian crashes are a growing concern in Janesville and across the state of Wisconsin. These incidents often occur in urban areas where heavy traffic and high pedestrian activity intersect. The recent death of 65-year-old Susanne Eddy, who was struck near East Milwaukee Street and Suffolk Drive, tragically highlights the danger pedestrians face—particularly during evening hours or in locations with reduced visibility.

According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, a significant number of pedestrian fatalities happen in city environments. Common contributing factors include distracted driving, speeding, failure to yield at crosswalks, and poorly lit streets. These conditions become even more hazardous during fall and winter months when it gets darker earlier in the day.

Older adults, like Eddy, are especially vulnerable in pedestrian crashes. Their slower mobility and increased fragility make it harder to avoid fast-moving vehicles and more difficult to recover from serious injuries. Sadly, many of these incidents result in long hospital stays or fatal outcomes.

For families affected by such tragedies, the aftermath is overwhelming. Alongside the emotional toll of losing a loved one, families may face medical bills, funeral expenses, and a sudden loss of income or support. When the crash is caused by another person’s negligence—whether through reckless behavior, distracted driving, or failure to obey traffic laws—surviving loved ones may be entitled to pursue legal action.

A skilled wrongful death attorney can help by thoroughly investigating the circumstances of the crash, determining liability, and advocating for compensation that reflects the true extent of the loss.
