Kansas City, MO – Two Injured After Multi-Vehicle Crash on E 39th St and Benton Blvd

Kansas City, MO (March 5, 2026) — Emergency crews responded to a multi-vehicle crash involving a city transit bus on Thursday morning near the intersection of East 39th Street and Benton Boulevard. The collision sent two people to a local hospital and caused visible damage to several vehicles.

First responders received the call shortly after 9:30 a.m. on March 5. The Kansas City Police officers, firefighters, and paramedics arrived quickly at the intersection, crews secured the area and began checking drivers and passengers for injuries.

According to reports from the scene, the crash involved three vehicles. Witnesses and news crews observed a white Chevrolet Impala, a dark-colored Ford Explorer, and a bus operated by the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA).

The front driver-side section of the KCATA bus showed structural damage after the crash. The impact damaged the front body panel and the windshield area. Images from the scene showed emergency responders surrounding the vehicles while they assessed the situation.

Authorities reported that three people suffered minor injuries in the crash. Paramedics transported two of those individuals to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment. At the time of the report, officials had not confirmed whether the injured individuals rode in the passenger vehicles or traveled on the bus.

Emergency crews worked at the scene to assist those involved and to clear the damaged vehicles from the roadway. The crash temporarily affected traffic near the busy intersection while responders completed their work.

Investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision. Officials have not released additional details about the events leading up to the crash.

We hope for a full recovery of those injured in this crash.

5 Steps To Take After an Injury Crash in Missouri

After an injury crash in Missouri, several important steps can help protect your safety and your rights. Call 911 and check for injuries, move to a safe area if possible, exchange contact and insurance information, and document the scene with photos.

The first step after any crash involves checking for injuries and contacting emergency services if necessary. Drivers and passengers should assess themselves and others in the vehicle for signs of injury. If anyone appears hurt or complains of pain, calling 911 right away ensures that trained medical professionals can respond quickly. Emergency responders can evaluate injuries at the scene and transport anyone who needs additional care to a nearby hospital.

Once everyone’s safety has been addressed, drivers should try to move their vehicles out of active traffic if it is safe to do so. Clearing vehicles from travel lanes can help reduce the risk of another collision and allows emergency crews to reach the scene more easily. If the vehicles cannot be moved, drivers should turn on hazard lights and remain in a safe location while waiting for help to arrive.

Missouri law requires drivers involved in a crash to exchange important information. This usually includes names, phone numbers, driver’s license details, and insurance information. Sharing accurate information helps insurance companies process claims and allows authorities to create a complete accident report. Remaining calm and cooperative during this exchange can make the process smoother for everyone involved.

Documenting the crash scene can also play an important role after a collision. Many people choose to take photographs of the vehicles, visible damage, the surrounding roadway, and any traffic signals or signs near the crash location. These details can help establish a clear record of what conditions looked like at the time of the accident. Gathering contact information from witnesses can also help provide additional perspective on what happened.

After receiving medical care and gathering information at the scene, you can speak with a car accident lawyer.
