Lafayette Co., MO – Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-70 Near MM 46 in Odessa Area Kills One, Injures Three
Lafayette County, MO (March 22, 2026) – On Saturday, March 21, a deadly multi-vehicle crash involving three semi-trucks and a passenger car occurred on westbound Interstate 70 near mile marker 46 in the Odessa area. Emergency crews responded around 1:45 p.m.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash involved three tractor-trailers and one passenger vehicle. Investigators said traffic had slowed in a construction zone when the chain-reaction crash occurred. A Georgia driver attempted to avoid one semi but struck it, triggering a series of impacts with the other vehicles. One semi overturned in the crash, and another vehicle was pushed into the median.
A 43-year-old semi driver from Georgia died from injuries sustained in the crash. Officers confirmed his death at the scene.
A 41-year-old semi driver from Virginia and a 26-year-old driver from Columbia, Missouri, suffered serious injuries. A third semi driver, a 70-year-old man from Alabama, sustained minor injuries. Paramedics evaluated those hurt and transported them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the incident.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the man who lost his life. We also wish those injured a full and steady recovery.
Compensation Available to Families After a Fatal Crash in Missouri
Families may seek compensation for funeral and burial costs after a fatal crash in Missouri. These expenses often include services, cremation, and burial arrangements. Documenting these costs helps support a claim process.
Medical expenses tied to treatment before death may also be recoverable. This can include emergency care, hospital stays, and transportation costs. Records from providers help show the extent of care received in detail.
Loss of income can form a large part of a claim. Families may recover earnings the deceased would have provided over time. This may include wages, benefits, and projected future income over years.
Household contributions may also be considered when evaluating damages. These include childcare, maintenance, and daily support tasks. The value of these services can be calculated based on their role in the home.
Loss of companionship addresses the absence of guidance and support. Family members may seek compensation for the impact on relationships. This includes loss of care, advice, and personal connection.
Damages may also include pain experienced by the victim before death. This relates to physical discomfort and awareness before passing. Medical evidence often helps establish this part of a claim clearly.
