Leroy, WI – One Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Hwy 49 near County Hwy YY
Leroy, WI (December 11, 2025) – A 48-year-old woman from Brookfield tragically lost her life in a three-vehicle crash on December 10 in Dodge County.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash just before 8:30 a.m. on State Highway 49, near the intersection with County Highway YY in the Town of Leroy.
Authorities say the crash began when a man from Campbellsport, traveling westbound, lost control of his vehicle. He crossed the center line and collided with two other vehicles — one of them a semi-truck. The impact caused a chain-reaction collision.
The 48-year-old woman, who has not yet been publicly identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Campbellsport man was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was also taken for evaluation but appeared to be uninjured.
State Highway 49 remained closed for nearly six hours as investigators worked to document the scene and remove the damaged vehicles.
The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life in this tragic incident.
Fatal Highway Accidents in Dodge County
Tragic crashes on rural highways such as State Highway 49 are all too common in areas like Dodge County. These two-lane roads often lack the safety infrastructure of larger interstates—such as median dividers, rumble strips, or wide shoulders—which can make them more dangerous, particularly during the winter months when icy conditions, low visibility, and slick surfaces increase the risk of losing control.
Accidents involving multiple vehicles and large commercial trucks, such as semis, tend to result in the most serious outcomes. The sheer size and weight of a semi-truck mean that even a relatively low-speed crash can lead to catastrophic injuries or fatalities for those in smaller passenger vehicles. When a vehicle crosses the center line, whether due to speeding, distracted driving, fatigue, mechanical failure, or poor road conditions, the consequences can be immediate and devastating.
In situations where another driver’s negligence contributed to the crash, surviving family members may have legal grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims can provide vital compensation to help cover the high costs of funeral expenses, medical bills, lost income, and the emotional suffering caused by a sudden loss.
A knowledgeable wrongful death lawyer can help families navigate the legal process by investigating the accident, determining liability, and holding the responsible parties accountable.
