Pedestrian Fatalities and Impaired Driving in Milwaukee

Pedestrian crashes remain a serious concern in Milwaukee, especially on city streets where foot traffic and vehicle traffic often intersect. Intersections and mid-block crossings can be particularly dangerous during evening hours, when visibility decreases, and traffic volumes remain high.

Impaired driving is a leading cause of fatal crashes in Wisconsin. Alcohol or drug impairment can slow reaction times, reduce awareness, and impair judgment, making it harder for drivers to see pedestrians or stop in time to avoid a collision. According to state data, a significant portion of fatal pedestrian crashes involve suspected or confirmed driver impairment.

When a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle, injuries are often severe due to the lack of physical protection. Victims may suffer head injuries, internal trauma, or multiple fractures, which can quickly become life-threatening.

For families who lose a loved one in a pedestrian crash, the emotional and financial impact can be overwhelming. Medical bills, funeral expenses, and the sudden loss of companionship or income can create long-term hardship. Under Wisconsin law, surviving family members may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim when negligence or impaired driving contributes to a fatal crash.

Legal guidance can help families understand their rights, review evidence, and navigate insurance and legal processes during a difficult time. Holding responsible parties accountable may also help promote safer driving behaviors in the community.

A wrongful death attorney can assist families by gathering evidence, reviewing police reports, consulting with accident reconstruction experts, and negotiating with insurance companies. Early legal guidance ensures critical evidence is preserved and that the rights of victims and their families are protected throughout the claims process.
