How To Handle Insurance After a Fatal Accident in Missouri

After a fatal accident, is recommended to protect your family's interests by limiting what you say to adjusters, organizing all incoming documents, and seeking legal professional help to ensure the insurance company provides the full support your family deserves.

Shortly after the accident, the other driver's insurance company may call you to ask for a "recorded statement" or to ask how you are doing. It is important to know that you are not legally required to speak with them immediately. Anything you say can be used to minimize the severity of the situation. It is perfectly acceptable to tell the adjuster that you are not ready to talk and that all future communication should go through your lawyer or a designated representative.

A fatal accident generates a mountain of paperwork, from medical transport bills and hospital records to towing receipts and the official police report. Create a dedicated folder to keep every piece of mail you receive. Having an organized record ensures that when it comes time to settle the claim, no expense is overlooked. This file also helps your lawyer understand the full financial impact the accident has had on your family.

By contacting a lawyer, you put a professional barrier between your family and the insurance company. A lawyer handles the phone calls, the paperwork, and the difficult negotiations. This ensures that the insurance company treats your claim with the seriousness it deserves, allowing you to focus on your family while your advocate fights for the resources you need for the future.
