Emergency units responded just after 7 a.m. to a crash at State Highway 67 and McMahon Road. The incident occurred near the Village of Lac La Belle in Waukesha County.

Preliminary information shows a 34-year-old man was driving north on State Highway 67 when his vehicle struck another northbound car. The second vehicle was driven by a 16-year-old student who had been waiting to turn west onto McMahon Road.

The teen driver had two passengers inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. One passenger sat in the front seat, while a 10-year-old boy rode in the back seat. The impact caused severe injuries to the child in the rear seat. Emergency responders located the boy at the scene and confirmed he had died from his injuries.

Both drivers and the second passenger suffered injuries in the accident. Medical teams evaluated them at the scene and transported them to nearby hospitals for additional treatment.

Officials have not released details about the severity of the injuries suffered by the surviving victims. Investigators also have not confirmed what factors led to the collision at the intersection.

Authorities reported that everyone involved in the crash has cooperated with the investigation. Crews documented the scene and gathered information to help determine the events leading up to the accident. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the young boy who lost his life.

How Long Families Have to File a Wrongful Death Lawsuit in Wisconsin

In Wisconsin, families generally have three years from the date of death to file a wrongful death lawsuit. This legal deadline, known as the statute of limitations, sets the time limit for seeking compensation after a fatal accident. Filing within this period helps ensure the case can move forward in court if a family decides to pursue a claim.

Fatal vehicle crashes often create sudden financial and legal challenges for families. In addition to the emotional loss, households may face funeral costs, medical expenses related to the incident, and the long-term loss of financial support.

Families who lose a loved one in a collision may have questions about whether a wrongful death claim could apply to their situation. In Wisconsin, certain relatives may be eligible to file a claim if another party’s actions contributed to the fatal accident. These cases often examine police reports, witness statements, crash reconstruction findings, and medical documentation. Compensation in these claims may relate to funeral costs, lost financial contributions, and other losses connected to the death.

Legal guidance can help families understand how the process works and what documentation may be needed. A wrongful death attorney can review accident reports, insurance policies, and other records to explain whether a claim may be possible under Wisconsin law. Legal professionals may also help families organize information and communicate with insurance companies during the review of the incident.

Some families begin exploring their options soon after the accident, while others take time before considering legal steps. Because the statute of limitations sets a clear deadline, understanding the timeline can help families decide when to seek additional information about the process. Gathering documents early may also make it easier to review the case if questions arise later.
