Oconto County, WI (April 6, 2026) – A 48-year-old man from Little Suamico was killed on Sunday morning, April 5, following a crash involving a truck and a UTV.
Authorities say the crash occurred around 3:26 a.m. on Old 41 Road near Vermeiren Road. Emergency responders arrived to find the UTV driver on the ground next to the vehicle. He was transported to Bellin Oconto Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The driver of the truck, a 24-year-old man also from Little Suamico, was not injured in the crash. Officials confirmed he was later arrested.
Preliminary findings indicate the truck was traveling southbound when it collided with the UTV. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life.
What Legal Options May Be Available After a Fatal Crash Involving Alcohol in Wisconsin?
When a crash involves suspected alcohol use and results in a fatality, there may be both criminal and civil aspects to consider. While law enforcement handles the criminal investigation, families may also have the option to pursue a wrongful death claim through the civil system.
These types of claims often focus on whether negligence or impaired driving contributed to the crash. Evidence such as toxicology reports, police findings, and witness statements can play an important role in determining what happened.
In Wisconsin, certain family members may be able to seek compensation related to the loss, which can include financial and non-economic impacts. These cases can become more complex when alcohol is involved, especially if additional factors, such as where the alcohol was served, are considered.
The process can take time, particularly while investigations are still ongoing. Keeping records of reports, medical information, and any related expenses can help families stay organized during this period.
It’s also common for families to have questions as new details come to light. Reports may be updated, and additional findings can affect how a case moves forward. Having patience during this stage is difficult, but important, as early information is not always complete. Staying in touch with investigators and keeping copies of any official updates can help you stay informed.
As the situation develops, families may also begin to consider how the loss has affected them both financially and personally. Taking time to gather documentation, such as income records, funeral expenses, and other related costs, can help create a clearer picture of the impact over time.
If your family has lost a loved one in a crash involving a suspected impaired driver, having the right guidance can make a difficult time more manageable. A wrongful death attorney can help review available information, including crash reports and insurance coverage, and explain what legal steps might be available.
