Raymond, WI – Woman Killed, Child Hospitalized in House Fire on 108th St

Raymond, WI (December 5, 2025) – Authorities have confirmed the death of a woman following a house fire in the Village of Raymond on December 1. This article serves as an update to the earlier report on the residential fire incident that occurred near 108th Street and 52nd Street.

According to the Raymond Fire & Rescue Department, first responders were dispatched around 2:50 p.m. on Monday. A Raymond fire chief and a Norway police officer were the first to arrive and attempted to rescue occupants from the burning home. Heavy smoke conditions forced them to retreat.

Shortly after, a Racine County Sheriff’s deputy made a second attempt and successfully removed a child from the home. The child was immediately transported to Children’s Wisconsin by emergency crews. Their current condition has not been released.

Firefighters entered the home shortly after and located a woman inside. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene, she was pronounced dead.

Multiple fire departments, including Union Grove-Yorkville, Norway, and Kansasville, responded to the scene. The fire was extinguished quickly, and damage to the home is estimated at approximately $50,000.

The Racine County Fire Investigation Task Force and the Racine County Sheriff’s Office are actively investigating the cause of the fire, which remains undetermined at this time.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the woman who lost her life. We also extend our thoughts to the injured child and wish them a full recovery.

Fatal Residential Fires in Wisconsin

Residential fires can have devastating effects, especially when they strike without warning and result in serious injury or loss of life. The recent tragedy in Raymond, Wisconsin, in which a woman lost her life and a child was hospitalized, serves as a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly these emergencies can unfold. Events like this underscore the critical importance of fire safety, early detection systems, and emergency preparedness in every home.

Each year, dozens of lives are lost in house fires across Wisconsin. According to state data and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), common causes include faulty electrical wiring, space heaters, unattended cooking, and malfunctioning appliances. Homes without working smoke detectors or proper fire suppression systems are particularly at risk. Older residences may also be more susceptible due to outdated infrastructure or code violations.

When a fatal fire occurs, surviving family members are often left not only grieving but facing unexpected financial burdens such as funeral expenses, medical bills, and lost income. In some cases, the fire may be the result of negligence—such as a landlord’s failure to maintain working smoke alarms, improper wiring, or other safety violations. When this happens, the victim’s loved ones may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim.

An experienced wrongful death lawyer can help investigate the fire, determine liability, and guide the family through the legal process. Compensation may be available for both economic and emotional losses.
