St. Louis Co., MO – Fatal Pedestrian Accident on I-70
St. Louis County, MO (December 7, 2025) – A tragic sequence of events on Sunday, December 7, resulted in the death of a pedestrian along the eastbound ramp to Interstate 70 near Bermuda Road in North County. According to early reports, the fatality occurred after a pedestrian exited their vehicle following an earlier, separate crash on the ramp.
The first collision, which took place just before the Bermuda exit, involved a vehicle that had come to a stop on the ramp. No injuries were reported in that initial incident. Shortly afterward, as the driver stood outside their vehicle, they were struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling on the ramp. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that the driver who struck the pedestrian remained on-site and is cooperating with the investigation. Additional details have not yet been released as St. Louis County Police continue reviewing the incident.
Our deepest condolences go out to the loved ones of the person who lost their life in this heartbreaking event.
Fatal Pedestrian Crashes in St. Louis County
Pedestrian fatalities on interstate ramps and high-speed corridors remain a serious concern throughout St. Louis County. Areas such as the I-70 interchange system see heavy daily traffic from commuters, commercial vehicles, and travelers, creating conditions where sudden stops or roadside emergencies can quickly turn dangerous. Ramps, in particular, are high-risk locations because drivers may accelerate to merge or have limited visibility as they navigate curves or elevation changes.
Secondary crashes, as the one reported in this case, are a recurring issue on busy interstates. After an initial collision, stopped vehicles, debris, or pedestrians standing outside their cars significantly increase the chances of an additional, more severe incident.
Unfortunately, pedestrians on or near interstate travel lanes face extreme danger, even during daylight hours. At night or during periods of heavy traffic, the risks rise sharply due to reduced visibility, driver inattention, and high travel speeds.
Investigators commonly review skid marks, lighting conditions, vehicle positions, and statements from involved drivers and witnesses to determine the cause of fatal pedestrian crashes. Establishing what led to the secondary collision can involve analyzing multiple factors, including traffic speed, sight distance, driver distraction, or impairment. Insurance claims and liability assessments may also become complex in cases involving more than one crash event.
