Sullivan Co., MO —One Killed, Multiple Injured in Head-On Collision on Rte 6 Near Green City

Sullivan County, MO (January 6, 2026) — A deadly head-on collision in Sullivan County claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman and sent several others to the hospital with serious injuries on Monday, January 5.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Missouri Route 6 approximately 1.5 miles east of Green City. The collision involved a 2006 Toyota Tundra and a 2023 Dodge Charger traveling on the rural stretch of the roadway.

Investigators stated that the Toyota Tundra, driven by a 25-year-old man, struck the Dodge Charger head-on. The Charger was being driven by a 28-year-old man, who was the sole occupant of that vehicle at the time of the crash.

The impact caused severe damage to both vehicles. The Toyota Tundra overturned and came to rest on its side in the roadway, while the Dodge Charger left the roadway and traveled off the south side of MO-6.

Emergency responders arrived on scene and provided aid to multiple victims. A 62-year-old female passenger in the Toyota Tundra was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Tundra and five additional passengers were transported to a hospital with injuries described as serious to moderate. Information regarding their condition has not been released. The crash remains under investigation.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family of the woman who lost her life in this tragic crash and with all those injured as they continue their recovery.

Head-On Crashes and Legal Help in Missouri

Head-on collisions are among the most dangerous types of traffic crashes, particularly on rural highways like Missouri Route 6.

These roadways often lack physical barriers between opposing lanes of traffic, leaving little margin for error when a vehicle crosses the center line. When head-on crashes occur, the combined speed of both vehicles can lead to catastrophic injuries or fatalities.

In Missouri, rural roads account for a disproportionate number of fatal traffic accidents each year. Factors such as limited lighting, higher speeds, driver fatigue, and distracted or impaired driving can significantly increase the risk of severe collisions. When vehicles overturn or leave the roadway, as occurred in this crash, occupants are also at heightened risk for traumatic brain injuries, spinal injuries, internal organ damage, and other life-threatening conditions.

Crashes involving multiple passengers often result in complex emergency responses, with several victims requiring immediate medical attention. Even survivors who are initially listed with moderate injuries may face long-term physical, emotional, and financial challenges as symptoms worsen or complications arise during recovery.

Missouri law allows individuals injured in traffic accidents and the families of those killed to pursue compensation when a crash is caused by another party’s negligence. These claims may help cover medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost income, funeral expenses, and pain and suffering. Determining liability in head-on collisions often requires careful investigation, including crash reconstruction, vehicle data analysis, witness statements, and review of roadway evidence.

Legal guidance can help bring clarity during this difficult time. A wrongful death attorney can review the circumstances surrounding the crash, preserve critical evidence, handle communications with insurance carriers, and explain the legal paths that may be available to surviving family members.
