Warren Co., MO – Bicyclist Killed After Being Struck by Tractor-Trailer on I-70 Near Foristell
Warren County, MO (December 23, 2025) – A bicyclist was killed on Monday, December 22, after being struck by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 70 in Warren County, Missouri, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. on eastbound I-70 near Mile Marker 203 in the Foristell area. Troopers reported that a 63-year-old man from Warrenton was riding an electric bicycle eastbound along the left shoulder of the highway when he attempted to cross both lanes of traffic.
Investigators said the bicyclist entered the path of a semitruck traveling in the right lane. The tractor-trailer struck the bicycle, then ran off the roadway and collided with a speed limit sign. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
Our hearts go out to the family of the deceased person.
Bicycle Crashes Involving Commercial Vehicles in Missouri
Bicycle crashes involving tractor-trailers are especially dangerous due to the size, weight, and limited maneuverability of commercial vehicles. On high-speed roadways such as Interstate 70, even a brief encounter between a bicycle and a semi-truck can result in catastrophic or fatal injuries. Interstates are designed for motor vehicle travel, and bicyclists face extreme risk when present on these roadways.
According to statewide traffic data, collisions involving large trucks are more likely to result in severe injuries or fatalities compared to crashes involving passenger vehicles. The force of impact, combined with limited reaction time, leaves little opportunity for drivers to avoid a collision once a bicyclist enters active traffic lanes.
When a fatal bicycle crash occurs, surviving family members may face sudden emotional loss along with unexpected financial burdens. Funeral expenses, medical costs, and loss of income can quickly add to the strain. Missouri law allows eligible family members to pursue a wrongful death claim when negligence or unsafe conditions contribute to a fatal crash.
A wrongful death claim may help families seek compensation for funeral and burial costs, loss of financial support, and loss of companionship. Legal guidance can also help families navigate insurance issues, review crash evidence, and understand their rights during a difficult time.
